Rushin' Bruisette
Rushin' Bruisette #58
How long have you been skating?
I started my roller derby lifestyle in Sept 2016
What is your favorite part of derby?
Roller derby brings people of all backgrounds together. There's not a specific 'type' to play. I've met some of the loudest people but also some very timid people playing this sport. You start off often as strangers which quickly grows into friendships and extended family.
What do you like to do outside of derby?
Outside of derby, I'm a mom, so when life allows for it, I hit the gym, crochet, and go on 4 wheeled adventures.
Have you had any derby injuries?
My first bout, just 3 months after I started, I fell and broke my leg, also dislocating my ankle. I was only down for 2.5 months and have been going strong since.
What’s your favorite derby moment?
Coming back from said derby injury and getting 27/5 laps!
Tell us about your derby name
Rushin' Bruisette is a play on words from Russian Roulette. But more importantly, my number, 58, is the year my dad was born as well as my birth year reversed. He was a competition dance skater in the 70s, met my mom while working for a skating rink, and taught me to skate as a child. He passed away just months before I found derby so it is my way of keeping his skating legacy going.
What motto do you live by?
My dad's last facebook post as follows: These little bumps in the road are not setbacks, just lets you jump a little higher
