Macabre Melody

Macabre Melody #116

1) How long have you been skating?

I skated a lot in middle school with a friend who was an ice figure skater and my first job at 16 was delivering food on skates as a car hop at a Sonic Drive-In restaurant, but I hadn't skated since I was 18 when I started in derby.

2) Tell us about your derby name and number.

My name is Macabre Melody. Macabre means ghastly or ghostly, so I'm basically the song of death. I'm a really sweet and friendly persons in my regular life and felt I wanted to be more tough through derby. I also really like ghost stories and horror related things. My number is 116 I picked this because I like a Christian rap group called 116. One of their songs is "Undefeated" and 116 is Romans 1:16 which talked about being unashamed of Christ. I think we all should be strong and unashamed of ourselves as well. Believe in yourself and don't be afraid to be you!

3) What do you do for a living?
I'm a veterinary technician. I take care of sick dogs and cats in an intensive care unit at a specialty clinic.

4) What motto do you live by?

Never give up!

5) Have you had any injuries in derby?

Yes. I hurt my knee once on a fall and broke my ankle as well. But hey, pain is just a temporary problem. LOL.

6) How did you get involved in derby?

I always loved to skate and wished to do something with it. I didn't know about roller derby till I saw the movie whip it. I found out about CCRD at a parade in Belleville, Illinois about four years ago but didn't feel confident or in good enough shape to join 'till last year. It was the best decision ever to finally join!!

7) What is your favorite derby drill?
I love mohawking, so any drill that involves quick changes of direction or footwork.
